Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the advantage of using GroundBusters Tilling/Disc unit over a tiller?
  • A Tiller requires more power so you need a larger tractor to run a tiller than the GroundBuster Tiller/Disc.
  • The GroundBuster Tilling/Disc will rip through most any type of soil, yes, even rocky soil, where a tiller will not, (it may even break tines).
  • A GroundBuster Tilling/Disc works well on uneven soil and hilly terrain.
  • The GroundBuster Disc will most likely give you more depth, depending on the tiller you are using; many only have 5” tines.
  • A tiller can tend to overwork the soil leaving a hard pan after a heavy rainfall.
  • The GroundBuster Tiller/Disc when ordering with all the optional equipment, wheel kit, roller and grading mat, broadcast seeder with variable speed controller will make a very nice complete package.
Q: Can I use the GroundBuster Tiller/Disc as my primary tillage unit?
  • Most definitely Yes.
Q: Will the GroundBuster Tiller/Disc help in controlling my weeds without the use of chemicals?
  • The GroundBuster Tiller/Disc is certainly aggressive enough to turn your soil where it would then cover the weeds. However it could take several passes to cover most of the weeds. We recommend you disc the soil before the weeds get to a seed head. Let the weeds germinate then disc again. Don’t forget about the soil test to ensure you have the correct PH balance.
  • If you choose to use a Round-Up type chemical we suggest you spray weed killer 2 weeks prior to running your Tiller/Disc.
Q: How large of a tractor do I need to pull and lift the 6 foot Tiller/Disc without the wheels?
  • The 6 foot Tiller/Disc when equipped with the wheel kit and roller and grading mat will weight just under 1500#. We recommend a minimal of a 25hp tractor when equipped with the wheel kit option. If you purchase the Tiller/Disc without wheel kit option we recommend using a 30hp tractor. In order to lift and lower the Tiller/Disc you may need to add some weights to the front of the tractor for counter balance.
