Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the advantage of using your disc unit over my farm tiller?

  • Tiller requires more power or energy (larger tractor) then the Ground Buster Disc units.
  • The Ground Buster Disc will rip through most any type of soil, yes, even rocky soil, where a tiller would not it may even break.
  • Ground Buster Disc works well on un-even soil such as a side of a hill.
  • Ground Buster Disc will most likely give you more depth, depending on the tiller you are using; many only have 5” spikes.
  • A tiller can tend to overwork the soil leaving it hard after a heavy rainfall.
  • And finally the Ground Buster Disc when ordered complete offers you everything you need, disc, grading mat, cultipacker and broadcast seeder if ordered. The broadcast seeder option will be mounted to the disc and if requested can be supplied with a variable speed controller option.

Q: Can I use the Ground Buster Disc as my primary tillage unit?

  • Most definitely Yes.

Q: Will the Ground Buster Disc help in controlling my weeds without the use of chemicals?

  • The Ground Buster Disc is certainly aggressive enough to turn your soil where it would then burry the weeds into the soil. However it could take a time or two of disking the soil to get rid of the weeds. We recommend you disc the soil before the weeds get to a seed head. Let the weeds germinate then disc again. Don’t forget about the soil test to ensure you have the correct balance.
  • If you choose to use a Round-Up type product we suggest you spray the weed killer 2 weeks prior to disking.

Q: How large of a tractor do I need to pull and lift the 6 foot disc without the wheels?

  • The 6 foot disc when complete weight is just under 1500#. We recommend a minimal of 25hp with the wheel kit option. If you purchase disc without wheel kit option we recommend using a 30hp tractor. In order to lift and low the disc you may need to add some weights to the front for counter balance.
